Holding Companies

A holding company is a parent corporation, limited liability company, or limited partnership that owns enough voting stock in another company, that it can control that company's policies and oversee its management decisions. Although a holding company owns the assets of other companies, it merely maintains oversight capacities and therefore does not actively participate in running a business's day-to-day operations.

Currently there are 106 holding companies in the Iranian capital market.

According to the Law “Development of New Financial Instruments and Institutions”, the managers of financial institutions, such as investment and holding companies inclusive of the board members and the managing director shall not have a record of effective absolute criminal conviction and shall hold the required professional qualifications. The requirements and criteria for the professional qualifications are based merely on their education background and related job experiences.

Currently, the minimum capital required is IRR 10 billion (around $230 million).
