Iranian and Greek authorities have agreed to boost bilateral economic cooperation through a joint parliamentary economic commission and a joint trade council, an Iranian MP said Sunday.

A group of Iranian lawmaker recently paid a visit to Greece to discuss common areas of interest.

The Iranian delegation met deputy speaker of the Greek parliament, deputy foreign minister of Greece and a number of businesspeople, according to Mohammad Reza Pourebrahimi, member of the parliament’s economic committee.

“We agreed to form a joint parliamentary economic commission and a joint trade council,” he said, adding that banking cooperation was also discussed during the meetings.

Among other issues discussed with Greek officials were the expansion of cooperation in stock market activity as well as tourism and marine transportation industries, Pourebrahimi said.

He added that the Iran Mercantile Exchange could become a focal point for trade and commerce between Iran and Greece based on their talks with Greek officials.
