Dr. Mohammadi, Chairman of the SEO, attended ACG 20th Annual Meeting in Tehran as a keynote speaker.
Central Securities Depository of Iran (CSDI), as the sole CSD in the entire capital market, hosted ACG 20th Annual Meeting in Tehran from December 5-9.
As the keynote speaker in the meeting, Dr. Shapour Mohammadi, , highlighted Iran’s macroeconomic and capital market achievements, mainly after JCPOA.
He said: “Following the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Iran entered a new stage of its economic life.” Dr. Mohammadi talked about how Iran’s capital market has been affected by these positive developments and now enjoys the highest potential and return compared to its peers. More importantly, Iran is a stable country in a chaotic region. For such reasons, the Iranian capital market has drawn much interest particularly in the recent years.
“The SEO along with other capital market entities have tried in earnest to provide the required infrastructure for the internationalization of the market and to achieve so they have tried to efficiently apply international standards in the capital market such as through the SEO’s membership into IOSCO” said Dr. Mohammadi.
Dr. Mohammadi also touched on the recent developments in terms of legal infrastructures and easing the way for foreign investment in the capital market. As an instance, he pointed at the Blue Model, which has recently been approved in the SEO to facilitate settlement and remove the broker default risk for the foreign investors.
The Asia-Pacific Central Securities Depository Group (ACG) was formed in November 1997 as an informal international organization with the objective to facilitate the exchange of information and to promote mutual assistance among member securities depositories and clearing organizations in the Asia Pacific region.
